What We Do
CRIMINAL PROSECUTION
Our attorneys (see below) prosecute criminal violations by reviewing law enforcement reports to determine if criminal charges should be filed with the Courts.
JUVENILE COURT
We also determine whether juvenile court action is necessary to protect children who are abused, neglected, truant from school or home, or suicidal.
MENTAL HEALTH
When reports indicate that an adult person is mentally ill and poses a threat to self or others, the County Attorney may initiate a mental health commitment action to reduce the risk of danger for the person and our community.
BAD CHECK PROSECUTION
Following state statutes, we collect and prosecute individuals who have written bad checks (with insufficient funds or closed accounts) and return the money owed to the merchants.
OTHER LEGAL MATTERS
The County Attorney enforces child support orders to ensure payment of child support by non-custodial parents, initiates tax foreclosures in the District Court for unpaid real estate taxes, gives legal advice to all county officials upon request, and is on duty 24/7 to assist law enforcement with emergencies.
